Green School
Academy of St. Therese is a “Green” School
We celebrate Earth Day every day!
At the Academy of St. Therese we provide a healthy environment for students and staff, by promoting ecological sustainability, using alternatives to toxic chemicals, teaching healthy eating habits to promote healthy minds and bodies, and encouraging students to be stewards of their communities, the earth and its resources.
In addition to recycling bottles and cans, we keep a layered compost section on our grounds to teach students the ultimate way to dispose of green waste and its benefits:
- you can compost both garden waste and kitchen waste
- no energy is required to transport the waste away
- it doesn’t contribute to landfill
- you get to keep the finished product which is one of nature’s best mulches (and it’s cheap!)
- it improves soil and creates a healthy environment for plants
- compost heaps provide a refuge for toads (gardener friendly slug eaters!)
Students are taught to be respectful of God’s beautiful and bountiful natural gifts to His children on earth. Through science class children grow in an awareness of how not to waste and how recycling can benefit this generation and those to come.
Shaklee products, that are earth friendly and non-toxic, are used at the Academy. (Shaklee is the leading natural nutrition and green cleaning products company in the United States.)
